Exploring Pulau Dua
A Special Dive Beyond the Strait
During a recent visit from a wonderful group from Schöner Tauchen, we had the pleasure of celebrating a special milestone—Alessa’s 100th dive! To mark the occasion in style, we decided to leave the familiar muck diving sites of the Lembeh Strait behind and venture eastward, toward the lesser-known but stunning Pulau Dua.
Located just outside the strait, the area around Pulau Dua offers a refreshing change of scenery: clearer water, vibrant reefs, and the chance to encounter larger pelagic species.
Pulau Dua is surrounded by sloping reefs that descend to depths of over 40 meters, offering a dramatic underwater landscape. On our first dive, close to the island itself, we dropped down along a vibrant slope and were rewarded with a healthy, fish-filled reef teeming with life. As we hovered over the reef, keeping an eye on the deeper edge, the real show began—five blacktip reef sharks and a lone whitetip appeared beneath us. After watching the sharks glide past for several minutes, we slowly continued along the slope, enjoying the colorful tapestry of soft corals and reef fish that lined the way. It was the perfect start to our Pulau Dua adventure—big fish, healthy reefs, and the kind of visibility that makes you want to stay down forever.
the feeling from diving in South Lembeh
For our second dive, we decided to explore the reefs along Lembeh Island itself, near the village of Limangu. The site surprised us with its richness—a continuous slope blanketed in healthy, colorful corals, bustling with reef fish darting in and out of the reefscape. This is where we paused to properly celebrate Alessa’s 100th dive, surrounded by the magic of the reef. At around 25 meters, we came across a promising outcrop—a reef finger reaching further out into deeper water. Intrigued, we had a look but decided to leave it for next time, mindful of our dive profiles and the day’s remaining dive. Still, it sparked our curiosity—what lies beyond? More sharks? Bigger fish? There's only one way to find out…

Until Next Time…
All in all, it was a fantastic day of diving—exploring the lesser-known reefs of Lembeh’s east side was a refreshing change from the iconic muck sites of the strait. From sharks and eagle rays to healthy coral slopes and shared moments above and below the surface, this trip had everything we love about diving.
We’ll be back for sure!
